When can we actually talk?
Pick both cities and your usual hours. We'll line up your two days and show the windows when you're both awake and free, in both local times.
How to use your overlap well
Most long-distance couples don't need more hours together. They need the hours they have to be predictable. Once you know your window, a few habits make it go further:
- Make one call a standing date. Pick the best window above and protect it the way you would a dinner reservation. Knowing it's coming takes pressure off every other day.
- Trade the inconvenient slot. If the only overlap is early for one of you, swap who stretches each week so it never feels one-sided.
- Fill the gaps asynchronously. A photo from your day, a voice note, or a letter your partner opens when they wake up keeps you in each other's day without needing the same clock. That's exactly what the daily challenge and pigeon letters in Miles Apart are built for.
- Recheck twice a year. The US, UK, EU and Australia change clocks on different weekends, so your window can move by an hour for a few weeks in spring and autumn.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best time to call in a long-distance relationship with a time difference?
The best time is the longest window when you are both awake and neither of you is at work or class. For a 5-hour gap (like New York and London), that is usually the early evening for the person behind and late evening for the person ahead, or a weekend morning. Enter both cities above to get your exact window.
How do long-distance couples handle a big time difference like 12 hours?
With a 10 to 12 hour gap your waking hours barely overlap, so couples usually split the load: one person calls on their morning commute while the other is winding down, and they swap on weekends. Asynchronous habits (voice notes, a daily shared photo, a letter to wake up to) carry connection through the hours you can't talk live.
Does this planner account for daylight saving time?
Yes. It converts every 15-minute block of the day with your browser's built-in time zone database, so daylight saving changes in either city are reflected for today's date. Check again around March and October, when many regions shift on different weekends.
Can I share my results with my partner?
Yes. The page address updates with both cities as you choose them. Use the copy link button and your partner will open the planner with the same two time zones already selected.
